Neighborhood Bike Works repair crew in action

Children from the neighborhood surrounding Emanuel were treated to a bicycle clinic on Monday, August 13, from 6:00 p.m. till dark in the Emanuel parking lot.

Junior mechanics from Neighborhood Bike Works, a West Philadelphia organization that trains youths to repair and restore bicycles and allows them to "earn" their own bikes, performed bicycle safety checks and minor repairs while volunteers from the church fixed flat tires -- all at no charge.

In all, the crew performed 17 safety checks and patched 33 tires.
